Shampoo and co-washing
Now most people have heard of shampooing, but Not many have heard of co-washing.
I know a lot of curly girls may not shampoo their hair and will just co-wash. But shampooing your hair is still very important. I do agree with most of the curly girl method, but one of the things I disagree with is not shampooing your hair.
Whether you shampoo once a week, once a fortnight, you must shampoo your hair. Shampoo cleans the scalp pores, from debris, oil and products. This allows your hair and scalp to breathe. Co-washing will only remove some debris, this isn’t a bad thing. Co-washing is when you use a conditioner that has some cleansing agents in them, but is more a conditioner than a shampoo. This gives more of a gentle cleanse than a deep cleanse, as shampoo is more of a deep cleanse.
if you are a regular shampoo’er than I’d recommend trying co-washing, shampoo and conditioner one time, then next time you feel you need to cleanse, do a co-wash, then next time shampoo and condition. This will help prevent the hair from drying out, but still cleaning out the pores.
now you might think, oh but all my products as curly girl approved, that’s great, but hair is porus and will still absorb products, oil and dirt and this can only be really be removed by shampooing. If you don’t remove them, hair can become, lank, curls loose their shape, colour can look dull etc.
co-washing can be used not just for curly hair. Straight hair people can co-wash as well.
also one main things to remember with co-washing is you still must scrub and iinvigorate your scalp, like you would when you shampoo.
thank you
